During my time training as a full time athlete and my time spent in Bath over the summer of 2013, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. This is an inflammatory bowel disorder that can be trigger by food and stress with NO current cure. When told to reduce my weight for the games it was very stressful as having to manage the condition while also maintaining strength and speed should I be called upon. This also occurred throughout the 2013/2014 season while in North America and Europe. It has a huge impact on my moral and I get very tired, which did not help with the jet lag and constant travelling.
Having to obtain medical clearance from UKAD to take the correct medication was a stressful time and I would not have been able to get through it without my team mates; Golder, Nwume, Galvin and the support from the coaches. I am forever grateful for having them around and getting a 6th place in the last north Americas race made it all the more special for me.
Further support from my old training partner Brett Morse who also has the same condition was invaluable and I was able to confide in my long term training partner Ben Simons as we lived and trained together. It became apparent to me that despite the embarrassing nature of the condition friends were able to help me through the challenges. This made getting to the Olympic games even more of a significant achievement for me.
Thank you all for your support
